tantalizing - How Many Can Sit at a Table?

Summer brings piquant which brings guests which brings seating issues. It is never fun to sit packed together at a table with no room to eat. No matter how great the food, people will come away with a bad experience.

tantalizing - How Many Can Sit at a Table?

People often ask me how many can sit at a singular table, bar or counter. Let me offer some quick tips to keep you out of trouble and your guests comfortable.
Place settings are about 18" wide. Dining chairs commonly run in the middle of 16"-20" wide for side chairs. Bar stools can be narrower and armchairs (often outdoor chairs too) can be 22"-24" wide. A safe whole of space (width on table) to consider for each diner is 24". This takes into list arms and Movement while eating. Larger men with big brawny arms might want 30" of space.

Here are some general rules for table sizes:
60" long rectangular or oval table will seat up to 6 people comfortably. 84" long rectangular or oval table will seat up to 8 comfortably. 36" round will seat 4 people. 60" round will seat 8 people. 54" square will seat 8 people.

What about benches or picnic tables?

True, you can squeeze people together a itsybitsy easier because you don't need room for piquant chairs but 24" per adult is still recommended. For small children you can get away with a bit less.

Asking people to sit without back support, works for short period meals only. If you are planning a multiple policy patio supper hoping your guests linger for hours piquant copious amounts of food and wine, give them a chair.

Always take into list the above measurements for diner space, your chairs and your family.

This table is 72" long and 44" wide. Following the above for 24" for each someone would mean 3 x 24 = 72". There are websites selling tables who indicate this is fine. It should seat three people on each side and maybe one on each end. Doesn't work in the real world.

These chairs are 19" wide at the seat and 21" at the chair back. Can I squeeze three chairs along a side? Not and give anything room to Move. What works best for this table is two on each side and one on each end for six total.

Remember, your guest should be comfortable. One needs room to eat, drink and pass food. More room is always best than less.

How to Build a easy Planter Box

How to Build a easy Planter Box

Everyone has space for planter boxes on their patio. If you have already built your picnic table from a reputable picnic table plan you could very honestly develop many planter boxes. You may even have some treated lumber left over from other outdoor project.

How to Build a easy Planter Box

How to Build a easy Planter Box

Planter boxes come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. This is a simple one that will go with any setting.

You will need 104" (9") of pressure treated 8" * 3/4" pine lumber.

Sides 8*3/4" 2 @ 27 1/2"
Ends 8*3/4" 2 @ 10"
Bottom 8*3/4" 1 @ 24 1/4"
Supports 8*3/4" 2 @ 2"

Cut out all of the pieces square.

The bottom piece is correct.

Now portion the bottom of the sides to 24 1/4", leaving the same number at each end. Draw a line from the top to the bottom and saw the diagonals off so that each end of the sides are the same. This creates an angled end. (The top of the sides is 27 1/2 and the bottom is 24 1/4.)

Now do the same with the ends. The top is 10" but the bottom is 6 3/4". Half the difference, draw the line and cut the diagonals.

The box should fit together except for the bottom of the sides which will need a microscopic planing to make them fit onto the bottom.

When it all fits, nail together with galvanised or stainless nails.

Nail the 2 bottom supports underneath so that the box doesn't sit directly on the deck.

Bore 4 - 5 1/2' holes straight through the bottom to allow an excess of water to flow out.

The Planter box is complete. Just add soil and plants to heighten the look on your deck.

Polywood Tables Make the Best speculation

Polywood Tables Make the Best speculation

Polywood tables are a great speculation for any outdoor piquant area. The heavy-duty plastic furniture offers a endurance and style that is hard to match. The use of the polywood not only means you get a persisting product, but it also means that you are helping to keep the landfills from overflowing. It's a good speculation for you, and a great one for the environment.

The use of polywood has been going on in outdoor building since 1990. In recent years, the aggregate of recycled plastics had made its way into the furniture industry. Polywood tables are a overwhelming example of being planet kindly and still useful, practical, and beautiful.

Polywood tables can be found in many fun, vibrant colors. Like its predecessor, the flimsy plastic furniture, the new polywood stands up well to the elements. It has progressed because it also stands up to the sun. The polywood is designed so that ultraviolet rays do not cause fading - this means no more painting of the furniture each spring (unfortunately it doesn't end the whole honey-do list).

Another unique feature of the new plastic furniture is that it is designed to look like wood. The polywood tables have been molded to resemble natural wood in look and in texture. Unlike real wood, these tables will not fall prey to water, insects, or other pests. Polywood tables give consumers the drive of wood without carrying all the hassles that come from the natural product.

The price of polywood tables is very inexpensive when you take into list all of the factors. It costs similar to solid wood furniture, but doesn't come with the upkeep. If you correlate the length of time the furniture will last the estimate it will cost up front, the new polywood furniture is quite a bargain.

Picnic Table Nostalgia

Picnic Table Nostalgia

In the past few years there has been a big shift in focus regarding outdoor living and entertaining. Obscuring the agency between indoors and outdoors has become big company and has set homeowners on a quest to find the exquisite accessories.

If you've done any seeing colse to for outdoor furniture, you probably have noticed a seemingly endless array of offerings. There is all from superior teak dining sets (which looks just like an indoor dining room table and chairs) to resin, all-weather wicker materials. The strides that have been made in this field are nothing short of incredible...and it appears that there is not an end in sight. New designs, textiles and add-ons come into the market on a daily basis.

Now, don't get me wrong. I'm an outdoor living fanatic, probably like many of you. But with all the new innovations, we tend to forget about some of the tried-and-true elements--one of these being our old friend, the Picnic Table.

There's not much history on the origin of the Picnic Table. Most agree that the invention of the joined benches with a table gained popularity in the late 1800's. The majority of these eating units were seen in social parks (still are), other social conference places and Smalltown Usa.

The name itself, "Picnic" actually heralds memories of a by-gone era. Now we talk about Barbecue's, Cookouts and Grilling. It seems as though the art of the picnic has somehow been swallowed-up throughout the years. Sounds like a cue for an report on fine picnic dining. I'm sure that if you mention summer picnics, or picnic tables to any baby boomer, that they would have some heartfelt and endearing memories with abundance of stories to tell. If any of you have some, I'd love to hear from you.

With all that's been going on with the economy, it might not hurt to re-introduce a sLight of "the good old days" back into our lives. Picnic tables are still relatively inexpensive ( at Home Depot) and if you must, you can get them in other materials than wood-even recycled plastic! Hmmm...a "green" picnic table. Why not even have your church, synagogue or other assosication originate a Picnic Table Fund and put dedication plaques on them to remember someone special. Then invent an annual Picnic in everyone's honor. What a great way to originate a renewed sense of society with an unparalleled piece of Americana-the Picnic Table.
